Timeline

2014 - 2017

The solution was born out of a partnership between SAP and the German football team. Following the team’s victory at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, SAP was heralded as the team’s “12th Man” by the Wall Street Journal and credited with a significant contribution to the famous win.

The Process

Understand

Analysis of existing designs and research into current and future design trends for potential improvements

worshop

Creation of mood boards to define the future design style more clearly.

Design high-fidelity mockups based on wireframes provided by UX designers

Conduct internal interviews with stakeholders and developers to validate design and development feasibility

Analyze testing outcomes and identify necessary design improvements before handing over to development

Document design components in a living style guide

Dark vs white

To determine the best design strategy for the additional applications needed to complete the Sports One suite, the design team gathered best practices for both dark and light themes. Two mockups, based on the created mood boards, were presented to project managers and product owners.

Icons

Before leaving the Sankt Leon Rot office, one of my primary responsibilities was designing over 300 customized icons for the Sports One suite. The icons were created in sizes ranging from 16x16 to 48x48 pixels to support the information displayed throughout the suite, including launch icons for the mobile applications.

Team One App concept

Team members use SAP Team One to chat, share videos and images, and enhance internal team communication. The mobile app features individual chat rooms for focused discussions.

To facilitate quicker navigation between chat rooms, the concept introduced a horizontal scroll/carousel. Users can easily drag the top container of each chat room, allowing for faster switching between conversations.

Branding

As a quick challenge, I was tasked with designing a logo for the Sports One suite.

Conclusion

During the 24 months I spent working on this project, I had the opportunity to define the initial steps of one of the most revolutionary sports-specific cloud solutions in the market. I had the privilege of collaborating with talented UX designers, which deepened my understanding of how digital product concepts are created, tested, and developed. Additionally, I gained insights into how UI elements are conceived and documented in a living style guide, as well as the conception and maintenance of an icon font. Throughout this journey, we were also honored with two design awards.
